What are Highbay Lights?
As the name implies, highbay lights are used to light up spaces with high ceilings. This usually applies to ceilings ranging from 20 feet to around 24 feet. Lowbay lights, however, are used for ceilings under 20 feet.
Highbay lights have multiple applications across a variety of industries, this includes workshops, assembly lines, factories. Highbay lights may also be seen in large recreational gyms and facilities. This type of light is also excellent for lighting up storage facilities and warehouses, large conference halls and even in hangars.
Highbay lighting provides a benefit of clear, uniform lighting of what is below with very little glare. Various types of reflectors accomplish various kinds of illumination tasks for highbay lights. Aluminium reflectors allow light from the fixtures flowing directly downward to the floor and prismatic reflectors generate diffused light that is useful for lighting up shelves and other objects that are elevated.
Several industries and facilities are required to use highbay lighting. The most common are:
- Municipal facilities such as community or recreational centres.
- Manufacturing facilities.
- Warehouses.
- Department stores.
- Schools, universities and gymnasiums.
Many kinds of fixtures can be used when setting up highbay lights. These fixtures include LED lights, fluorescent lights, induction lights and metal halide lights. Each one of the fixtures has its own pros and cons. For example, LED lights have an extremely long lifespan and are energy efficient, but, require a big initial investment. On the other hand, traditional incandescent lights are not as expensive but do not last as long and utilise more energy.
Other than having different costs and efficiencies, the several types of fixtures that can be used for highbay lights offer various qualities of light.
The correct choice of highbay lighting increases safety, maximises energy efficiency and boosts productivity.
