Lighting Choices for Better Power Consumption

As humankind’s impact on the planet becomes more evident by the day, many people are looking for effective solutions to cut back on power costs while doing their part to live a little more greenly. Lighting, has become such an important part of our daily lives, that often, there is very little room to compromise in this regard. Though there is a responsibility for all of us to keep energy consumption in our homes and businesses to a minimum, which makes sourcing energy efficient lighting systems a priority for anyone who wants to lower their electricity bills, while lending a helping hand to our burning planet. So which light sources are able to provide this type of efficiency, while still being able to be used practically? Fortunately, there are a number of solutions that you can choose from.

Incandescent light bulbs

By passing an electrical current through a filament, incandescent lights provide one of the cheapest and most readily available lighting solutions around. Though where they make up in convenience, they do sacrifice on efficiency. Not only do these lights have a much shorter lifespan than others on the list, they also consume quite a bit more power. So, while they are often the most affordable and accessible option, they are generally not the most responsible.

Halogen Lamps

Halogen bulbs provide a compromise between inefficient incandescent bulbs, and the far more cost-effective fluorescents or LEDS available for purchase, but come at a much more affordable cost than the latter. They work off of a similar design to incandescent bulbs, tough are better suited to providing focused light, making them more suited to very specific applications.

Fluorescent lights

Fluorescent lights provide a middle ground in terms of initial and running costs, efficiency and effectiveness, which makes them an incredibly popular choice for industrial applications that require large scales of reliable lighting. CFL’s are a type of fluorescent that offer even more of a lifespan and energy efficiency, while standard tube-bulbs are the most commonly used.

LED lights

LEDs take the price for the highest stats. They are the most expensive to invest in, but are also the most energy efficient lighting solutions on the market. In addition to this, they also enjoy the longest lifespan than any other lighting solution, which often makes the hefty investment well worth the savings they will bring you in the long run.
