Nordland (Pty) Ltd was
Established in 1967 in South
Africa as an importer of
Luminaires from Europe.
Over the years it became
apparent that our future lay
in local manufacture and a
process of import
substitution began.
Nordland is a South African
manufacturer of specialised
industrial lighting. Based in
Muldersdrift Gauteng
40 kilometers from central
Johannesburg, the company
produces Explosion Protected,
and other non classified
fluorescent and HID luminaires.
All products are manufactured to
IEC International or
SABS/IEC Specifications

Nordland manufactures under the SABS Mark Holder, Permit Scheme. This means that all processes and products manufactured, are subject to regular Third Party Inspection and testing.
The Permit Scheme allows this quality conscious company to display the SABS Logo on its products, and they do not require batch testing of production runs. However every product manufactured undergoes at least one safety and electrical function test during assembly. Nordland has had Permit status since the late seventies, and is one of the last of the original companies who have this honour for lighting.
ISO 9000/2000, Nordland has recently had a final audit prior to receipt of the Certificate of Compliance with the ISO requirements.
A number of Nordland's products are approved for use in Australia and NewZealand. Several of the stainless steel luminaires have been tested by a European Test House, and are certified as complying with ATEX requirements.
Zone 1 luminaires manufactured, are Increased Safety
(Ex e) fluorescent luminaires in stainless steel and glass and a version in DMC with polycarbonate lens. Flameproof (Ex d) Pendants are available in cast iron or aluminium.
Zone 2 and Zone 21/22 luminaires are available in fluorescent, Highbay, floodlight or bulkhead format.
Nordland has its own range of electronic control gear approved for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 fluorescent luminaires.
Care has been taken with the care of the design of the various light fittings to ensure they comply with specification requirements, and yet are sufficiently robust to meet the needs of mining and other industries in Africa. As all components are locally manufactured spares are readily available.
Nordland based in Gauteng has regional agents, Toefy Distributors in Cape Town, KwaZulu Lighting in Durban. Pioneer Power Techniques represent Nordland in Zambia, and have offices in Lusaka and Kitwe. M&P lighting are the agents for Botswana and are based in Gaberone. Lumiance represents Nordland in Zimbabwe
